The Sickstring Outlaws are an outlaw country/southern rock band whose main goal is to show people a good time. The San Diego based band have had the good fortune through hard work to open for the likes of David Allan Coe, The Marshall Tucker Band and Merle Jagger as well as many local acts such as the popular tribute band Cash’d Out, Married by Elvis, Three Bad Jacks and many more. They have performed at many venues such as Brick by Brick, Adams Street Fair, Del Mar Fair, The knitting Factory in Hollywood, The Ramona Mainstage (sold out show w/ David Allan Coe), Winstons, Dream Street Live and Gallaghers to name just a few. The Sickstring Outlaws have taken the hard road by playing original songs, staying true to what they believe in and working hard to keep outlaw country music alive. By sheer determination, they are starting to gain a large and strong fan base everywhere they play. If you happen to catch their live show…you will not be disappointed. Nina Garin, writer for the San Diego Union Tribune, quoted in her column…”This band is clearly influenced by Hank Williams Jr., Merle Haggard and other Classic country stars, but the music is still super-fun and has a tough sound all its own.” – Nina Garin
Swimming amidst a sea of surf-rock and reggae, The Sickstring Outlaws are here to infuse their brand of southern-rock into the San Diego music scene. The six-piece outfit wears its influences proudly, as almost a tribute of sorts to classic country icons like Merle Haggard, Hank Williams Jr., and The Marshall Tucker Band.
The band’s latest release, Electric Moonshine (A Tribute to Popcorn Sutton), is chock-full of more foot-stompin’, hand-clappin’ songs about drinking, women, and partying, but with honest story-telling woven throughout. These Outlaws continue to perfect their craft of full-on country rock, and their experience shines through brighter than ever. The title track is the only song to let off the gas and slow down enough to pay proper tribute to Popcorn Sutton, and American Appalachian moonshiner who committed suicide in 2009 to avoid federal prison on moonshine convictions. It can be hard to capture the high energy and good times of Sickstring Outlaws live shows, but this latest release comes pretty damn close.
Just on note from the artist Ron Houston “it’s best played loud!”
If you just can’t wait. Catch the Sickstring Outlaws tonight at Riviera Supper Club and Turquoise Room for RON’S BIRTHDAY BASH and keep an eye on the Gale Force Productions event calendar for upcoming local show dates.
